A Colorado State Forest Service chipping crew will be in Beaver Lakes on Friday October 9th. That gives you two weekends to build piles next to the road. This is a great opportunity to protect your buildings and the forest.
Tim Ratterman has volunteered to coordinate this wonderful service! Please contact him at: tratt9@gmail.com
Here is all you need to do:
• Build piles next to the road with all the butt ends facing one way. This helps speed up the chipping.
• Do not include root balls. They can contain rocks that will damage the chipper.
• In addition to dead trees include green trees and branches that has been cut away from the perimeter of your buildings. Please take the time to read the attached document on fire mitigation.
Protecting Your Home from Wildfire –
• Do not include any trees with a trunk diameter over 6”. That should be used for firewood.
• Sage can be included.
• Homeowners do not need to be home to participate. They appreciate the help if you are able.
The cost for the crew and chipper is $150 per hour with an estimated cost of $75 per participant.
Tim Ratterman will pay the crew and bill back participating lot owners for their portion.
Tim currently has the following owners on the list. Contact me directly at tratt9@gmail.com if you want to be added to the list.
